Adobe’s December earnings will test whether beats finally move the stock
Adobe has scheduled its fiscal fourth-quarter and full-year earnings call for December 9, 2026, at 2 p.m. Pacific. The company is coming off a quarter that set revenue records and showed strong subscription engagement, yet the market reaction to recent operational wins has been muted for more than a year.
Adobe has beaten consensus EPS in 46 of its last 50 earnings events and in each of the last eight quarters. Across those 46 beats, the median 10-day post-beat return has been -0.83% and the frequency of positive 10-day returns was 47.83%. Operational consistency has not produced a reliable short-term price response.1
Management has already given December 9 a concrete benchmark: revenue of $6.80 to $6.85 billion, non-GAAP diluted EPS of $6.30 to $6.35, and GAAP diluted EPS of $4.65 to $4.70.10 The report will also give investors an opportunity to assess management’s growth outlook, whether AI features are attracting paying customers, and how Adobe plans to allocate capital.

| October 2025 peak | $359.91 (2025-10-28) (Just outside the current rolling 52-week window) |
| 52-week low | $193.41 (2026-06-25) (Post-beat capitulation two weeks after June 2026 report) |
| FY revenue (FY2025) | $23.77B (Three-year compound annual growth 10.52%) |
| TTM diluted EPS | $17.91 (Trailing twelve months, implied P/E of 13.97) |
The streak that keeps repeating
Adobe’s recent operating results have been steady and substantial. In the third quarter of fiscal 2026, revenue reached $6.76 billion and non-GAAP diluted EPS was $6.13 (GAAP diluted EPS: $4.62) per the earnings release,10 with total annualized recurring revenue climbing to $27.50 billion for the period ending August 28, 2026.2
That operational consistency is reflected in the company’s earnings-event history: a 92% beat rate across 50 recorded events, with beats in each of the last eight quarters.1 As noted above, that record has not translated into dependable short-term price gains in the 46-beat sample.1
The March 2026 period offers one illustration. A buyer entering at the March 12 close of $269.78 would have been down about 2.2% through the historical calculator’s October 23, 2026 reference endpoint.9 The business is performing while the trailing multiple has compressed. That history leaves December 9 as much a test of guidance, margin posture, and AI-monetization signals as it is of the headline number itself.
Why an earnings beat is only part of the investment case
The bullish case rests on product traction and cash generation. News coverage reports Adobe has crossed one billion monthly users across its combined creative and collaboration products, with roughly 30% net margin on fiscal 2025 results. Those figures support the case that scale and reinvestment capacity remain intact.3
AI is the distributional debate. Adobe has rolled its Creative Agent into Firefly, Photoshop, Premiere, Illustrator, InDesign, and Frame.io, largely in beta, converting a product narrative into potential recurring usage and monetization levers for creative professionals.6 If those assistant features produce measurable uptake inside paid subscriptions, they can sustain both average revenue per user and recurring revenue expansion; the SEC 10-Q shows Creative Marketing Professionals subscription revenue of $4.65 billion and Business Professionals & Consumers subscription revenue of $1.91 billion in the quarter, giving Adobe obvious paths to monetize new features.2
Competition adds another test for Adobe’s AI strategy. Figma offers collaborative tools for interface and product design, while Canva provides tools for presentations, marketing materials, and other visual content. Those are alternatives for parts of the creative workflow, not proof that customers are abandoning Adobe.
Adobe has expanded Firefly and AI-assisted workflows across its creative applications. The investment question is whether those additions help retain paying customers and support recurring-revenue growth. New features alone do not establish that outcome.6
The bearish counterpoint is a cluster of signals that make the market cautious. News coverage reports shareholders are down about 26.5% over the past 12 months; CEO and CFO departures have introduced leadership uncertainty; and a large buyback plan announced into that executive turnover and share-price weakness has raised capital-allocation questions that go beyond typical return-of-capital discussions.4 The valuation reflects some of this skepticism: Adobe trades at a trailing price-to-earnings ratio of 13.97 on $17.91 of TTM diluted EPS, a multiple profile that implies real doubt about forward acceleration.5
Institutional positioning is mixed. Virginia Retirement Systems increased its position by 35.4% in the third quarter, adding 94,091 shares, which signals conviction from some long-only investors even as other holders rotate into other AI names.7 The disagreement boils down to whether Adobe’s AI features will keep annualized recurring revenue growing faster than the market now assumes, and whether the new executive team can translate recent product shipping into guidance the market trusts.
Where the chart is right now
Through the October 30 close, the chart is close to indecisive. Price sits just above the 20-day moving average at $247.67, below the 50-day at $254.37, and marginally under the 200-day at $250.44; the MACD is above its signal line, the RSI reads 50.3, and a golden cross occurred within the last 30 sessions. The signals are consistent with a market waiting for a directional catalyst.8
The post-earnings behavior around prior reports is the frame worth holding in mind. ADBE’s 52-week low of $193.41 arrived on June 25, 2026, two weeks after the June earnings beat. A buyer entering at that low was up 36.4% through the historical calculator’s October 23, 2026 reference endpoint.9 That does not argue the pattern repeats, but it does show that past beat-and-fade episodes have produced tradable lows.
What to watch on Wednesday, December 9, 2026
First, examine guidance and annualized recurring revenue commentary; those are the levers that change the story. The Q3 FY2026 10-Q shows annualized recurring revenue at $27.50 billion and subscription splits that let management point to where growth is accelerating.2 Look for evidence that the new AI features are attracting paying customers or increasing spending by existing customers. Those results would help assess whether product adoption is strengthening the business.
Second, watch non-GAAP diluted EPS against the management forecast of $6.30 to $6.35, and the tone on capital allocation. Across all 46 Adobe beats in the historical sample, the median 10-day post-beat return has been -0.83% and the frequency of positive 10-day returns was 47.83%; at the thirty-day horizon in the same sample the median rises to +1.20% and the positive-return frequency to 56.52%. These describe outcomes in the defined sample and are not odds for any single future report.1 Guidance direction, any shift in buyback or investment plans, and clarity on the recent leadership transitions are the subjects that would inform how an EPS line interacts with the broader investment case.
An EPS beat would answer only part of the investment question. Adobe’s next report should also be read against management’s forecasts and against evidence that AI adoption is producing paid growth and sustainable profits. The historical return sample provides context; it does not predict the stock’s next move.
